How to Help Your Child Like the Dental Office

Posted .

Do you want your child to have a positive dental experience free of dental fear and anxiety? If so, then our Dr. Kent Stapley & Dr. Nathan Kitchen team has some tips for you!

There are some things you can do to help your child feel calm and comfortable in the dental chair. Some of those things are:

-When you come in for your checkups, bring your child with you. Doing so will help them get used to our office and will also help them get to know our friendly dental team.

-When talking about the dental office and treatments, avoid using negative words like “hurt,” “needle,” “pain,” “scary,” etc.

-At home, play “dentist” instead of “house” with your child. As you play, go through the motions of a dental checkup so your child becomes familiar with the process.

-Talk to your dentist, Dr. Dr. Kent Stapley & Dr. Nathan Kitchen, and ask them how they explains treatments to children. The soft, comforting words will help you explain the treatments to your child without scaring them.

-When your child asks you questions, answer them honestly but do your best to be sensitive.

Using these tips will help your child avoid feeling scared or nervous at the dental office.
