A Dental Implant Is an Effective Method for Replacing a Lost Molar

Posted .

At the dental practice of Dr. Kent Stapley & Dr. Nathan Kitchen in Mesa, Arizona, we are happy to provide dental implants for our patients with missing teeth. In many cases a bridge can be used to replace a missing tooth. However, a bridge needs to be mounted on two surrounding teeth. If you’ve lost your last molar there will not be a second anchor point. To effectively solve a problem like this our dentists will often recommend having a dental implant installed.

Our dental implants can be installed on an outpatient basis where you will be fully sedated. This means you will need to arrange to have someone drive you home after the procedure and help you out until you are fully back on your feet. During the procedure, a small incision will be made in your gums and a titanium abutment is then screwed into a narrow channel. Titanium is a biologically safe metal that will fuse to your natural bone tissues in a process known as osseointegration.

Once this is complete, Dr. Kent Stapley & Dr. Nathan Kitchen will cast a detailed impression of the titanium abutment and any relevant teeth. This will be sent to a dental lab where they will custom-craft a crown molar from either gold or base metal alloys.

If you’ve lost a molar or any other tooth in your mouth, please call our skilled dental team in Mesa, Arizona at 480-830-8946 to have it restored. We are here to help you maintain your healthy, confident smile!
