Drawbacks to Dentures

Even the most skillfully made dentures are very different from your natural teeth. Traditional full dentures rest on the soft tissue of your upper and lower gums, and some degree of slippage and movement is inevitable. Your chewing efficiency will decrease. If you go into your experience with dentures with realistic expectations, you’re much more likely to be happy with your dentures.

There are long term consequences to wearing dentures. When you lose a tooth, the bone of your jaw at the site of the loss begins to be reabsorbed almost immediately. If you’ve lost all your teeth, your jaw bones can become extremely thin and brittle. This process generally takes many years, but it is the major reason your dentist will strive to keep your natural teeth intact for as long as possible.
